Reviews Overview

The highlight at Batterfly is certainly its fish and chips, with the large cod receiving rave reviews for its flaky texture and perfectly crisp batter. Many customers also praise the substantial portion sizes, making it great value for money. The warm hospitality of the staff contributes to an enjoyable dining experience, bringing that personal touch when serving each meal. Unique offerings like halloumi slices and crispy prawns add to fan-favorite dishes. Diners frequently mention the cleanliness of the shop and the efficient takeaway service, ideal for those on the go.

Most Disliked

While the menu caters well to fish lovers, it can be somewhat limited for those with specific dietary preferences outside the seafood realm. Some vegan diners might feel left out, as it's best to confirm vegan options beforehand. Additionally, due to its popularity, peak hours can lead to longer wait times, particularly on Fridays when the restaurant reaches full capacity. Some patrons noted that the limited non-fish options could use expansion, making it a less ideal choice for non-seafood eaters in larger groups.

If you’re in the Kingston upon Thames area and looking for a warm, high-quality fish & chips experience, Batterfly is definitely recommended. While the menu is broad, it’s mainly focused on fish, so if you have special dietary needs or are looking for vegan options, it’s best to ask in advance. Enjoy your meal! The service and attention were excellent — thank you for this wonderful experience.

Outstanding quality of food and service. Perfectly applied golden batter, light and crisp, not greasy and certainly no hint of over-used/burnt oil. Chips was proper - great texture, well fried yet soft inside and not soggy. We had the cod and it was excellent, tender, flaky and moist inside and cooked to perfection, in fact raising the bar so much higher than any fish and chippery we have visited on this side of the country, including the coast, which really speaks volumes. This place proves you certainly do not need to go coastal to get fish and chips of this excellence and freshness. Absolute delight. The mushy peas really elevate the experience as you would normally expect - I presume home-made because taste and texture were spot on for freshness. And no offence to the owners but we really didn't expect something so good and were so humbled when we realised the quality. Presentation of food A++. There is a comfortable seating area with a table in front of the counter. This place is a true gem, and we are lucky to have discovered it. Impeccable clean and modern premises. Welcoming and most pleasant. This place deserves a notch on the top list in the country. "Impressive" is an understatement. This is obviously a glowing review and if it's possible to further highlight any aspect of this place then I would, I'm just lost for words. Food is made with love, and you can tell. Wholeheartedly recommended.

I heard about the good reviews, so I decided to try them out for an early supper before going home. I enjoyed a freshly cooked regular battered cod with a scoopful of chips and a portion of mushy peas. The cod was especially flavoursome, and the chips were good. I couldn't finish the chips as even a scoopful was too much for me. I decided to eat in as it wasn't busy.
